THE CYCLIC INDEX

Cycles of aggressive human behavior appear to be linked to enormous electromagnetic disturbances in the solar system. The generator of most sever geomagnetic disturbances is the Sun. Evidence supports the theory that certain planetary alignments trigger sunspot surges. As has been pointed out, hard angle aspects (the conjunction, square, and opposition) between the planets most often match up with the onset of solar storms.

The bunch close together on one side of the Sun before gradually separating once again. There also comes a time when the planets are all close to opposition with each other. Astrologers have paid close attention to those times when the planets are lined-up or clustered in a particular sign of the zodiac. The major line-up in Aquarius in early 1962 was much talked about at the time. Predictions were that a bevy of brilliant, artistic, and fiercely independent children would be born then. There was indeed an upsurge of musical and artistic innovations beginning in 1962. America was also on the brink of a catastrophic war in Vietnam, and narrowly missed a possible nuclear war with the USSR over the Cuban Missile Crisis. Another line-up took place in Taurus in 1941 - World War II. The 1914 line-up in Aquarius coincided with World War I. In 1899, the line-up in Sagittarius occurred near the Spanish-American War. The line-up in Virgo in 1861 coincided with the American Civil War - The War Between the States. What, then, might the Taurus seven-planet line-up of 2000 indicate?

A French astrologer working in the 1940s, Henri-Joseph Gouchon, established a technique whereby the slower moving planets from Jupiter out to Pluto were plotted to show the sum of the arc between all of them. The method was first publicized in France in the mid-sixties by Andre' Barbault. In graph form, The Cyclic Index as it is called, illustrates periods when the planets are farthest apart (peaks) and when they are close together (troughs). The descending arcs of the graph represent times when the planets are approaching conjunctions with one another; the ascending arcs are times when the planets are moving toward oppositions. Troughs in the graph are thus planetary line-ups - conjunctions. Peaks in the graph are planetary oppositions.

Most wars tend to begin after the descent from a high peak. Long, devastating wars usually begin from a relatively high peak that suddenly drops in a steep descent. There are exceptions, as we will see, but the Cyclic Index does produce an accurate visual representation of war and peace. Troughs in the graph are times of war. Peaks in the graph are times of peace.

Significant wars occasionally break out on rises in the Cyclic Index and not, as expected, on declines. This disparity can be rather easily explained since the Index we have been using is based on the first harmonic. The first harmonic considers the planets from conjunction and opposition only. The fourth harmonic includes the two 90 0 squares. Sunspot and electromagnetic studies have consistently found a relationship with hard angle aspects between the planets. The first harmonic does not take all four of these primary aspects into account. Sunspot and electromagnetic studies have consistently found a relationship with hard angle aspects between the planets. The Cyclic Index may occasionally be thrown into error due to this aspect omission. Let us, then, take another look at the 19th Century from 1840 on using the fourth harmonic. The troughs in the graph are now when the planets are nearest conjunction, square, or opposition - the activity or stress points!

1848 now shows a steep but not deep drop in the Index as several of the planets approached a hard angle aspect with one another. Another clear example of the forecasting improvement the fourth harmonic provides is 1860. In the first harmonic graph, the American Civil War is seen to begin in 1860 on a high rise in the graph. This is a gross error. The fourth harmonic graph clearly shows the beginning of hostilities in 1860 and the end of the war in 1865 (next peak ).

The 1870-drop correlates with the Franco-Prussian War. The major low in 1876 was at the time of an anti-Turkish insurrection in Bulgaria where thousands were massacred. Serbia and Montenegro declare war on Turkey. And the Sioux under Chief Sitting Bull massacre General George Custer and his men at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

The peak in early 1895 dropped off sharply and Italy and Ethiopia war as Armenians are massacred in Constantinople. The drop in 1899 marks the Boer War between the British and Boers in South Africa (to 1902). In 1900, the Boxer Rebellion in China begins; British conquest of northern Nigeria starts; and a long arms race between the German and British navy gets underway.

The 1st harmonic chart of the Twentieth Century clearly shows World War I and World War II. The Cold War hostilities beginning in 1950 with the Korean War are also indicated, although late by a couple of years. The Korean War shows up dramatically in the 4th harmonic chart. The large second dip in the 1950s points to the defeat of France in Vietnam. The French had controlled Indochina - now Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam - since the 1800s. The Japanese took the area over during World War II but with the war's end Vietnam proclaimed its independence. France, however, resumed control in 1946, while recognizing Vietnam as a separate state within the French union. Ho Chi Minh had other plans. In December 1946, he attacked Hanoi and set-off the long Indochina War. In 1954, the French are defeated at the 54-dat siege of Dien Bien Phu. American forces are soon drawn into the fray. America's involvement in Vietnam is clearly visible in the 4th harmonic chart for the mid 1960s. The U.S. withdraws troops in 1973, leaving the South Vietnamese to their fate, and the Communists control the country in 1975. The 4th harmonic graph again illustrates these stages in the conflict admirably well. The 1st harmonic chart points to the end of the war in 1975 but the rise in the index from 1969 was anything but peaceful.

The big drop from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s correlates with the Iran-Iraq bloodbath among others. The following drop from 1990 saw the United States lead United Nations forces against Sadam Hussein in the Gulf War.

The War on Terrorism begins in 2001 during a low in the 4th harmonic chart. The Taliban regime controlling Afghanistan quickly succumbs to heavy U.S. bombing and moderate ground support, with much help from allied Afghan forces. The war then progresses to other fronts like fighting insurgents in the Philippines. The Cyclic Index moves up from the 2000 low, pointing to relative peaceful conditions until late 2002-2003. The greatest level of hostilities in the first decade of the 21st Century, however, will come as a double-whammy: 2006-2007 and 2009-2011. The period 2019-2021 is particularly troublesome looking. 2040-2042 and 2044-2045 are deep dips in the Index and will probably correlate with widespread world unrest.

There is general agreement among the studies cited by Stephen Bush, Anita Kemp, Paul Craig and Kenneth Watt, and my Cycle of Violence study that the period between 2003 and 2011 will be a time of increased violence. The Cycle of Violence also pinpoints the 2021 period. If we look closely at the 4th harmonic Cyclic Index, 2003 stands out as the beginning of three waves of war. Kemp and my study are in agreement, 2003-2004 should be exceptionally bloody years. 2007-2008 is the second intense period, and 2010 the third. Bush, Craig and Watt said 2008 would be the height of hostilities. The Cyclic Index is nearly in agreement here citing 2006-2007 and perhaps the first half of 2008 as very hostile. Low periods of violence in the Cycle of Violence (2006 and 2018) are supported by fewer hard angles between the planets in the Cyclic Index for these years. The Cycle of Violence near 2021 occurs right on a deep drop in the Index - expect war.

A TIME OF PEACE

War is complex. Its ramifications go far beyond the killing fields. Dewey noted in his research of International Battles that statistically significant cycles in war matched certain biological and economic cycles. Biological cycles are those pertaining to animal abundances, the spread of disease, chemical reactions, etc. Economic cycles pertain to purely monetary markets like price and production data. Most cycles found in biological and economic data are exclusive; in other words, they are not found in other categories. War is an exception. The 9.6-year cycle in war is found in forty-two different biological phenomena, whereas the 17.7-year war cycle is primarily an economic one. The 5.98-year cycle in war has counterparts in stock, copper, pig iron and cotton prices, and in grouse abundance, and in the spread of diphtheria from 1900-1938. War is a biological phenomenon with economic repercussions!

War is big business. Historically, economic lows have come during peacetime, not during wartime. But the massive buildup that characterizes the war effort suddenly ends with the peace treaty; what follows is usually a post-war depression. America has experienced several deep post-war depressions.

In the absence of fighting great intellectual advancements have taken place. Edward Dewey researched the number of men active in Greek physical science and the number of Arabic mathematicians from 600 B.C. through 1300 A.D. This data was then tested for cycles of significance: a long cycle of 164.1-years emerged. Dewey had previously defined a long war cycle of 164.4-years, which could be the result of chance only 6 times in 1000. Although the two cycles share a close similarity in length, they are actually inverted! When the war cycle is down, the scientific creativity cycle is up, and vice versa.

The fifty years or so surrounding 1974 has been a time of rapid and unprecedented scientific and technological advancements. Historic scientific progress should continue through at least the first two decades of the 21st Century, after which time a gradual reduction in scientific advances will take place. The scope of breakthroughs will diminish in both importance and number near the year 2056. As scientific advances wane, an upsurge in the number of wars will take place. The Cyclic Index shows a low in 2060 that begins in 2055. A short low on the peak of a plateau centers on 2070. Although this is the statistical high point in the 164-year cycle, the majority of wars – and the really significant ones of the latter half of the 21st Century - will take place from 2055-2061, 2077-2083, and 2091-2095.

Additional information regarding wars and sunspots, and other celestial phenomenon, can be found on Buryl.com. Buryl Payne, Ph.D. has written extensively on the correlation between certain planetary alignments and sunspots, geomagnetic storms, and weather patterns. Dr. Payne predicts disruptions in geomagnetism that affects the weather and human behavior. A highly recommended site.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silent, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”
Ecclesiastes

[1] A valid statistical finding is 0.05 or less; in other words, a one in twenty chance of being random. The sunspot/war correlation is 0.008.

[2] An orb is a certain range in celestial longitude either side of an exact aspect. A 50 orb means a square aspect exists whenever two or more planets are between 850 and 950 apart.

[3] Professor Wheeler discovered that throughout history a relationship has existed between shifting world temperatures and man’s proclivity for violence. Warm periods encouraged the rise of dictators and international wars, while cold periods produced civil unrest and democracy. Periods of dry and hot weather that produce droughts brought about economic collapse, in comparison to warm and wet periods that correspond with financial prosperity.

[4] A 900-mile pipeline from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea opened in August 2001. This joint venture of the Russian and Kazakh governments and major oil firms is especially significant for ChevronTexaco and favorable to the West. It positions Russia, however, as a major player in the energy markets. Another large project near the Sakhalin Island north of Japan involves Russia and Exxon Mobil in the development of offshore oil and gas fields.

[5] The French-speaking republic of Quebec, Canada (46N48) has never been acquiescent to the Canadian capital of Ottawa (45N25). Quebec has, in fact, attempted to break free of Canada.
