THE ARAB SPRING
by Bill Hansen
The popular uprisings in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Syria are not unlike the divisive political polarization in the United States. From a geo-cosmic perspective, I liken these armed and ideological “revolutions” to the climatic changes rocking the Earth. These phenomena are symptoms of the current New Age as the winter solstice aligns with the galactic plane.
Vast sea changes of ideas have been taking place since the beginning of the New Age in the 1980s. The War on Terror, the Great Recession, the peak of oil, global warming, and a host of natural disasters the world over have galvanized people in a new way of thinking. Terrorists must be hunted down and eliminated; their safe havens (countries supporting them) dismantled. The corruption and greed in the financial sector must be rooted out. The Tea Party grassroots movement is a good example of this ideology change in America. The consuming habits of people have also changed. Quality, not quantity, is suddenly in vogue. Recycling has become a necessity as natural resources decline. People are thinking of conservation.
Oil as the dominant fuel is on the way out, eventually to be replaced by a consortium of renewable resources supported by nuclear power. Coal is still abundant and necessary, but a mindset has changed. Coal is dirty. It is CO2 prohibitive in the long-term. Renewable energy technologies will fuel the next economic boom. They are a small part of energy production today – but a rapidly growing one. Germany has decided to go “Green.” Japan has been forced to do so for the most part. Brazil is well on her way to renewable energy freedom. And the United States is also making rapid advances in this direction. It will take time. But one day the world will rely mostly on renewable energy. The age of oil is nearing an end.
There will continue to be much suffering in the years to come. These challenges will be climatic, financial, and political. But the enduring struggle of freedom over suppression will prevail.
So it is of no surprise that the Middle East is rebelling against its despots. Osama bin Laden has been killed along with many al-Qaeda chiefs. Villains like Bosnian Serb commander Mladic have been arrested. Kim Jong II of North Korea has just died, replaced by his reclusive third son. And the “Arab Spring” sentiment is trying to bring to justice other power abusers: Bashar al-Assad of Syria, Isaias Afewerki of Eritrea, Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, and Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan.
It all started in the United States when transiting Uranus crossed the Descendant (western horizon) of the Declaration of Independence horoscope. This occurred in three phases peaking Apr. 17 and Sep. 18, 2009, and Feb. 8, 2010. Political activism grew within the country as citizens began to object to President Obama’s big government agenda and his massive financial sector bailouts and stimulus packages. Defenders of the left and right entrenched and the fight was on. What has resulted is a huge stalemate in Congress.
The seeds of the Middle East uprising actually started during the George W. Bush administration. After the 9/11 attacks, Bush declared “open season” on terrorists worldwide. No nation was safe from ‘pre-emptive attack’ if they harbored the Taliban or al-Qaeda. A policy was issued that essentially encouraged Middle East nations to endorse democracy. Toppling Iraq and helping to establish a democratic, pro-west, government led to similar aims in Afghanistan. Notwithstanding the shortcomings of either of these efforts, the intended consequences spread like wildfire. Nations under heel rose up: first in Egypt and, then, in Libya, Yemen, and elsewhere. President Obama went along with the Bush policy.
The June 1, 2011 solar eclipse on the U.S. natal Uranus has correctly indicated a new eruption of violence in the region. I suspect, due to the New Age phenomenon, that this was inevitable in many places worldwide regardless of American involvement. Libya would, and always will, feel our military presence due to the U.S. relocation line of Mars (warfare) and Uranus (freedom) passing through this area. Our Mars line also touches Egypt - we were certainly not supporting them during the Yom Kippur War with Israel; however, they have been an ally in the region since and helped keep the vital Suez Canal open (our Venus and Jupiter friendship and money lines pass through this critical region). A Sun leadership line runs through Yemen. They are important to us as a gateway to the Suez. Our emphasis will always be on supporting their leaders even if they are despotic.
If President Saleh is ousted from power, then the White House will support whoever gives us support and access to control al-Qaeda terrorists in the region.
Syria is a complex situation indicated by the U.S. relocation Mars on the far west and Venus on the east side of the country. No line runs through Syria directly. We will prefer to leave Syria alone at least in terms of direct intervention. Perhaps our Israeli (with reluctant U.N. help) friends can handle this touchy affair. Syria will continue to kill and suppress all dissidents with little or no military intervention from the West or EU. Economic sanctions are taking a toll, however, and the people are rising up in force. Civil war is likely in 2012. The U.S. has probably supplied Israel and an Iranian terrorist organization bent on overthrowing the regime with information, support, and cyber technology to hamper Iranian nuclear efforts. The killing of nuclear scientists was probably not by the U.S. directly but sanctioned and covertly supported.
I have mentioned Saudi Arabia elsewhere and find no near future hostilities there. We have, in fact, recently established a joint elite force with the Saudis to defend the royal family and principally our oil interests. The Saudi royal family remains a friendly partner with the U.S. The only time this will be greatly tested is if conflict with Iran erupts and the vital sea-lanes dividing Iran, Oman, and Saudi Arabia are in jeopardy.
